Visiting: Temple of Artemis, Ephesus, Terrace Houses, Virgin Mary House, St. John Basilica, Selcuk Ottman Castle Panaroma, Pigeon Castle Panaroma

Duration: 9 hours

As you arrive in Izmir Harbor, please make your way to the exit where your guide will be waiting with a name placard, ready to escort you on the day's tour around Selcuk's incredible historical sights.

Temple of Artemis
Our first stop is the Temple of Artemis which dates back to 6th Century BC and is listed as one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. It was built by the Lycian King, Kreisos, and you can still get a sense of its former grandeur from its large marble foundations that are left standing in the surrounding swamp lands. Many of its ruins are now housed in London's British Museum and exhibit elaborate carvings.

Our next destination is the Ancient City of Ephesus, a once thriving Roman city that dates back to 10th Century BC. Your guide will escort you through some of its most impressive ruins, including the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the Celsius Library that once housed over 12,000 scrolls. Whilst at Ephesus we will also visit the Terrace Houses. These were the houses of the rich and famous of their time with heated flooring and their own private hamaam baths.

House of the Virgin Mary
Not too far away from Ephesus, atop a hill offering fantastic panoramic views over the area, sits the House of the Virgin Mary. It is believed to be where the Mother of Christ spent her final years and has now become a popular pilgrimage site for people from all walks of life.

St. John Basilica
The Basilica of St John is believed to have been built upon the remains of John the Apostle in 548 AD and completed 17 years later in 565 AD. Its architecture was styled upon the Church of the Holy Apostles in Istanbul and it was once considered one of the region's most sacred churches.

Selcuk Ottoman Castle Panorama
Sitting above the Basilica of St John lies the ruined Selcuk Ottoman Castle - the highest point overlooking Selcuk and a fantastic opportunity to get some photographs of the historical lands that lie below.

Pigeon Castle Panorama
Last on our agenda is a stop for sunset at Pigeon Island which juts into the ocean from Kusadasi Town. Explore its ancient Byzantine Castle and museum or just take the time to reflect on the day's activities.

Lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. We will suggest options for local Turkish restaurants and provide ample time for you to have a sit-down lunch.
